Imperial Tobacco gradually reduced its shareholding, but it was not until 1980 that it divested its remaining interests in the company. ‘No evidence’ for an action means we have not yet found any studies that directly and quantitatively tested this action during our systematic journal and report searches. This 1995 BMW K1100 was acquired in stock form by the seller in February 2020 and subsequently rebuilt as a cafe racer by his shop, HellGate Moto in New York City. I have had more sand and dirt in my BAT than probably anyone. Had the bolt lubed up very wet and got blasted by rotor wash in south TX and it looked like someone had sprayed the bolt with glue and dropped it on the beach. The BAT TAC is good to go in dirty conditions, as is the VRPIC AND HRPIC. The benchrest models such as the M and B are not suited for match shooting or hunting, for several reasons… The BAT runs smoother, and has an excellent T Slot extractor that is super strong and throws the brass close to you instead of flinging it way out to the right.
- It’s made it more interesting, but it has also made decisions on new purchases much more demanding.
- So these guys are extremely competitive and really good at gaming strategy, in addition to being world-class shooters.
- One of the three rifles left is a Bat SV LPRB .20BR. It was built for him by Bat Machine.
- Adding a few thousandths can increase compatibility with more cartridges; tightening things can increase performance while possibly leading to reliability issues.
- Don´t know if he makes one, but it sure doesn´t hurt to ask.
I would for sure choose a different stock than a scoville for a true HV rifle. Also have him tweak the fire control with tungsten weight and new spring. I had previously owned a BAT B RL HBR rifle that is a Dream to shoot. Everything about that action is great except it doesn’t have a right eject port, which I have come to love. Does firing pin tip size have anything to do with my question?????? Skeet, I base a lot of feelings about this after what I saw at the 2009 Nationals, when really nice conditions allowed shooters who flat out had superior equipment to shoot phenominol aggs. Not all BAT or other actions have this problem, just like James Mock said in his post.
Bat Actions Vs Stiller Actions
With a street price in the neighborhood of $1,000, the Ruger Precision Rifle offers a complete rifle package priced below most custom actions currently on the market. While the fit and finish of these rifles may not match that of some custom rifle designs, they’re affordable, accurate, and easy to upgrade. Ruger’s early support of the aftermarket community helped cement the Ruger Precision Rifle’s reputation as an excellent gateway platform to the precision rifle game. I think it all goes back to some research that Creighton Audette did, using a two lug highpower match rifle, with heavily FL sized brass. The upshot of it was that when the extremes of case wall thickness were oriented in alignment with the lugs, there was less effect than if they were aligned at right angles to the lugs. This is why some actions that were designed for prone type shooting have as many as four lugs. There is no issue with disturbing the rifle on the bags with higher bolt lift, and the nature of the ammunition favors that design approach.
So I went back to those old results and filtered them down to only include the shooters that finished in the top 50. So that is why some of the numbers vary slightly from the charts I published for previous years. It is very minor, but I was just trying to figure out the best way to look at the data and it seemed like the cleanest approach. From my personal experience it seems as though quality control on new production Remington 700’s is hit or miss, and their finishes have a tendency to rust fairly easily. I’ll typically take a 700 action, square the face, clean up the raceway, have it cerakoted, and will then throw an aftermarket barrel on it, but your mileage may vary. Manufacturers of the Fuzion and Razor actions, Lone Peak Arms offers their actions in both 416R stainless steel or 6AI-4V grade titanium.
Porsche 911 Gt3
So I’ll be anxious to get next year’s results to see if this was just a temporary dip, because in 2012 and 2013 almost half of the shooters in the top 50 were sporting a Surgeon action. In what could arguably be called the original modular action design, Savage has long embraced the concepts of swappable bolt heads and shoulderless pre-fit barrels locked in place by a barrel nut. Known for their affordability and extreme level of accuracy in disciplines such as F-Class, a variety of factory Savage 10 and Savage 110 models are available from $650 -$2,000.
So these guys are extremely competitive and really good at gaming strategy, in addition to being world-class shooters. The brakes & suppressor post is coming up in a couple weeks. That seems to be one of the areas that people are still pioneering. I guess they’re just relatively new parts when compared to most of the rifle. But it’s not just that they look different, they can perform vastly different as well. These PRS guys sometimes help lead the rest of us to the best new or improved equipment, and that has definitely proven true for me on those two. I tried a JEC brake after last years results … it’s legit and so much more effective than the OPS I was running.
This 1964 Porsche 356C is said to have been located in California since new and was acquired by the current owner’s late husband from his father, who purchased it in 1967. The car is finished in red over black upholstery and is powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. This 2007 Porsche Boxster is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over black leather and is powered by a 2.7-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle.
They are the only other company that makes the lug and rail built in. I have been trying to keep to myself lately unless I see some new guy getting sucked down the drain with the dishwater. Primers are real old technology and as Remington figured out a long time ago,you gotta smack the hell out of them to make them consistent. The Rems and Pandas use 24 lb springs and massive firing pins, smasha, smasha, smasha ! Bat’s and Farleys use lighter 18lb springs and dainter firing pins for the sake of smooth operation, but if these springs get weak ignition and accuracy are compromised. For a hunting or tactical rifle, Stiller might be a safer bet as their clearances are more loose. I have had both BAT and Stiller along with Defiance and Badger actions.

Honestly, I’ve never owned one or even seen one in person , so I’m afraid I can’t be much help. The defiance actions are cut to take the ai double stack mags as well- huge benefit over some other actions out there. Protrusion beneath the rifle is similar to a standard aics mag.
The car is finished in green over tan upholstery, and power comes from a 2.5-liter M20 inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. This 1976 Chevrolet Corvette was first delivered to Trumbull Chevrolet of Detroit, Michigan, and subsequently purchased by the seller from the first owner in 2020. Finished in Dark Brown Metallic over Buckskin leather upholstery, the car is powered by an L48 350ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. This 2014 Porsche Cayenne GTS was purchased new by the owner from Porsche of North Houston, Texas, and collected via the European Delivery program in Leipzig, Germany. The vehicle is finished in Carmine Red over black leather and powered by a 4.8-liter V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Bat Tr Receiver Body
For example, it has a closed top with a narrow port for added stiffness. But that means the constricted ejection port doesn’t allow top loading, so it must be fed from detachable AI magazines. It also has a thick tang for stiffness, which sets “proud” on most stocks (i.e. the rear tang of the action sticks up above the stockline). Here are the rifle actions the top 50 shooters were using in 2014. It also shows how popular each of those actions were in the previous two years. • Amoskeag Auction Co., Inc. is a licensed Class III S.O.T. and handles transfers of Machineguns, Suppressors, A.O.W.’s and short barreled rifles and shotguns in-house. Currently building a 338LM with a Stiller TAC 338 receiver with available 40 moa rail. Remember you gotta compare apples to apples in the model price you pick……

The scope is a Leupold Competition 40X45mm with a 1/8 Min. dot reticle mounted in Leupold rings and on a 20 MOA Stiller rail. This 1970 Ford Mustang Grande is finished in Bright Gold with a black vinyl roof over brown upholstery, and power comes from a 302ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The Grande trim featured softer suspension and extra sound deadening as well as a deluxe interior with simulated wood trim and badges on the dash and the C-pillars. This 1955 Buick Century Riviera is finished in red with a white top over matching upholstery and is powered by a 322ci Nailhead V8 paired with a Dynaflow automatic transmission. Features include a power-adjustable front bench seat, power steering, power brakes, bright trim, a heater, and a trunk-mounted air conditioner. This 1958 Pontiac Bonneville is said to have been sold new in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and spent time in Florida and Georgia before being acquired by the seller in 2012.
- Slick bolt movement on axis; steep lever angle and small knob make it unlikely that you’ll bind the action with upward pressure.
- A durable bat box with no glue or chemicals to bother bats.
- Finished in Dark Brown Metallic over Buckskin leather upholstery, the car is powered by an L48 350ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
- But a few leaders at AI rallied enough interest to restart the business just a few days later.
Honestly, at this level … I think 80% of this is shooting ability. Great gear can compliment a great shooter and make them a little more proficient, but great gear doesn’t make a good shooter.
Click on the Actions Pull-Down Menu for detailed descriptions of all the action types with zoomable images. There is also a helpful Action Selection Guide that can help you chose the right configuration for your next rifle build. And BAT fans can now purchase BAT rings, tools, parts, and logo gear through a secure BAT online store. I love my kelby, especially the mechanical ejector, no pressure on the case and it ejects cartridges all in a nice clean group next to your rifle. Stiller probably represents the best value over all of all the available custom receivers.
And don’t take this paragraph as a criticism of BAT products. I’ve already said my piece about Bruce Thom, and a look at the equipment lists of the top-10 at any match shows how good BAT products are. As far as my personal opinion goes, I have four BAT actions, and they are not for sale. When he says “Buy the Best. . . .” he really means it, it is what he believes. He may occasionally get a bit optimistic about delivery time, but that’s a benchrest tradition. “Should I buy a BAT 2-lug or BAT 3-lug” is sort of like asking if you should marry a blond, brunette, or redhead. You’ll not get a consensus, and the discussion may range a bit .

Each wheel is constructed of an alloy center bolted to a finished barrel with offset, sizing, and Speedline etchings on the outer rim. The wheels feature Porsche part numbers and production date stamps for 1997, 2000, and 2002. Seekins will continually innovate to create the future of the industry by developing the ideas of our employees. We will continue to provide innovative, precision firearms and accessories that our customers will love and recommend. It doesn’t happen often, but banging on one to free a bolt that’s latched on to a stuck round can break it off. Some bolt handles are integral, meaning the bolt body and bolt handle base are carved from one piece of steel. None in our roundup are brazed or soldered; both of those processes should be avoided.
Shinny, Like said above, there probably isn’t any correct answer. My suggestion would be to enjoy the wealth of knowledge that has been disused here. This is free info from fellas that have been doing this for a lot longer than you or I combined.
But it limits you to a single rise, or requires the use of graduated rise optic mounts from the likes of buy BAT Spuhr and LaRue. All the non-integrated rails feature stout recoil/indexing pins to keep them in place.
But AI also offers adouble-stack magazine, and that is what is standard on rifles built on AI actions. It’s common for competitions shooters to run 10 round magazines, and for that capacity, a double-stack magazine is much more compact. You can see in the photos below that the double-stack magazine has a wider mouth, which the action has to support (the cut-out in the bottom has to be slightly larger). The popularity of Surgeon actions was cut by 50% this year, which was surprising. We saw in the post on gunsmiths, that the popularity of their complete rifle builds had shrunk significantly among this crowd as well.
